FTC Buyer’s Guide May Change to Help Consumers Avoid Used Car Fraud
The FTC is studying proposals to improve the Buyer’s Guide that, by law, has to be posted on all used vehicles at the time of sale. The changes are meant to clarify that “As-Is” sales do not protect dealers from fraud, and to help consumers get access to the many types of vehicle history reports consumers can get to see if the used car was flood damaged, salvage titled, a lemon law repurchase, frame damaged, or under a safety defect recall, etc. Comments must be received by January 30, 2015.
