Lemon Alert: Mercedes E-Class Fuel Leak
We have received a lemon report that model year 2003-2009 W211 E-Class Mercedes-Benz sedans and wagons have a defect in the evaporation tubes in gasoline tanks that can cause fumes to seep into the cabin and allow raw gasoline to escape the tank. Owners have claimed the defect also led to interior seats being ruined by gasoline and strong gas odors in their car cabins, creating health risks.
In December, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration closed a three-year investigation of the E-Class cars’ fuel tanks after the German automaker agreed to the warranty extension. Despite the extension, consumers may have claims for lemon law buy backs, compensatory and punitive damages.
