A List of Lemon Cars to Avoid: 2019 Consumer Reports Auto Issue is Out. Here are the Lemons to Watch Out For

Every year Consumer Reports magazine puts out a fantastic “Auto Issue” that rates the features, costs and reliability of cars, trucks and vans. Here are some lemons to watch out for and that are no longer recommended by Consumer Reports due to increasing reliability problems. The Acura RDX, Chrysler 300, Tesla Model 3, BMW 5 series, Dodge Charger, and Volkswagen Tiguan. These are the new lemons to watch out for. Other, more long-standing lemons? Avoid the Jaguar XE, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Volvo S90, Cadillac CTS, Maserati Ghibli, Jaguar XF, Jaguar XJL, Ford Fiesta, Fiat 500, Chrysler Pacifica, Jeep Compass, Chevy Traverse, Dodge Journey, Volkswagen Atlas, Jeep Wrangler, Jaguar E-Pace, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Land Rover Range Rover Velar, Jaguar F-Pace, Tesla Model X, Land Rover Discovery HSE, Land Rover Range Rover HSE, Cadillac Escalade, Nissan Titan, GMC Sierra, Chevy Silverado 2500HD LTZ diesel.
As you can see, and as Consumer Reports makes clear, there are some clear front-runners in the race to the bottom of “most lemons.” Watch out for these manufacturers and brands: Dodge, Cadillac, GMC, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, Mitsubishi, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Fiat. These brands have been making mechanics out of drivers for many years and don’t look to be stopping.
One special note, based on some conversations with Land Rover repair shops, don’t buy any Land Rover product until 2020 and they sort out a new supplier for electrical parts. They simply can’t fix the current problems.
