Illegal RoboCalls to Cellphones Cost Chase Bank
JPMorgan Chase Bank NA has agreed to pay up to almost $12 million to settle a class action alleging it illegally made automated calls to residential loan holders’ cellphones without consent, according to a deal approved by a California federal judge on Thursday.
The judge certified a class of present and former Chase borrowers whose mortgage or home equity loan was serviced by the bank or Chase Home Finance LLC and who were contacted on their cellphones by the bank through the use of an automated dialer; as well as a subclass of those persons whose cellphones were actually called by the bank or Chase Home Finance LLC .
