GM Settles Key Ignition Switch Defect Suit

The case is Melton et al. v. General Motors LLC et al., case number 14A1197-4, in the Georgia Court of Cobb County.  GM  on Friday settled its dispute with parents of the Georgia woman whose death in an alleged ignition switch-related crash led to key discoveries that exposed the scope of the deadly defect, resolving claims that the automaker negotiated a settlement over her death by hiding its knowledge of the defect.  The Plaintiff’s accident occurred because she lost control of her Chevrolet Cobalt when the key in her ignition switch shifted from the “run” position.
